Ryan White, head of gaming at YouTube, announced on Tuesday that he will leave the video sharing platform in February. Partly because of this, YouTube Gaming records over 250 million daily users with hundreds of billions of views each year. Wyatt mentioned his passion for blockchain and Web3 development while explaining his resignation. He will soon join Polygon Studios as CEO.
Polygon Studios are game and non-fungible tokens, or NFTs, part of the Ethereum scaling network of the same name. Polygon (MATIC) plans to commit $ 100 million to projects led by the studio, which debuted in July last year. The company’s goal is to develop decentralized games, attract blockchain enthusiasts to the NFT token ecosystem, and establish Polygon as the right blockchain for the transition to Web3. Regarding his new role, White said:
“I want to focus on expanding the developer ecosystem through investment, marketing, developer support and bridging the web between Web 2.0 and 3.0. I will lead the Polygon Studios organization across games, entertainment, fashion, news, sports and more.”
In his farewell statement, Wyatt described fond memories of his first day at Google headquarters in Mountain View, California in 2014. He also credited CEO Susan Wojcicki and business director Robert Kinkell for hiring him eight years ago. Meanwhile, Wyatt’s Polygon Studios warmly welcomed his new role.
