Controversial comedian and commentator Joe Rogan said he has “high hopes” for cryptocurrency in a recent podcast interview.
In the Saturday 1760th edition of his podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience, Rogan discusses the future of crypto with another podcast by Adam Curry. Rogan’s podcast has about 11 million listeners per episode, despite Spotify’s attempts to censor some of the more offensive episodes.
Rogan, whose podcast ranked #1 on Spotify in 2021, said:
“Either it will collapse completely, or we will use it as an opportunity to repair the ship and come up with a better way of living our lives.”
Carey hosts the right-wing podcast No Agenda, which has been criticized by the mainstream media and medical circles for promoting conspiracy theories.
“There’s a whole bunch of young people out there who just pulled out and moved on to building parallel systems and parallel networks,” Carey explained, before adding, “I’m on the Bitcoin train because I think my money is safer out there. …”
“The monetary system is broken. It causes inflation, it causes poverty, it causes wars because it is linked to oil.”
Rogan’s vision of the metaverse
Rogan and Carey also discuss the potential of digital metavers controlled by Silicon Valley and the potential role of non-fungible tokens in this space.
Rogan suggested that in the future, companies would create their own digital tokens that customers would have to use to purchase their products.
“Apple could easily have done it,” Rogan said, adding, “You can buy coins, and with those coins, you can buy products… It’s almost like another version of stock or something.”
However, Carey was not convinced, saying “this is not a plan,” and he expects powerful institutions and governments to turn their attention to central bank digital currencies instead.
“You want cryptocurrency. You need a digital wallet. It will be from the Federal Reserve directly to you. And there will be little to no retail banking — and it won’t exist anymore.”

Despite the positive cryptocurrency reviews on the podcast, many in the community are still skeptical. In the Reddit post of the r/Cryptocurrency subreddit, one user commented on u/thenudelman: “Recommendation from a pseudoscience leader. One can do without. Another user, u/Dubsy 101, added, “He is an idiot and the last person we want to associate with Crypto.”
Rogan and Carey have proven to be highly controversial figures in the crypto world and beyond. Rogan is known for his outspoken opposition to “political decency” and has previously been criticized for racist, sexist, and transgender jokes.
In July 2021, CashApp paid Rogan to tell his listeners to buy Bitcoin (BTC), and in November he accepted to pay $100,000 in BTC.
