The virtual band with four expensive cartoon monkeys from NFT Yacht Club Bored Apes hopes to be the music industry’s next big hit.
A core group called KINGSHIP will publish music and play in the meta-verse, as well as many NFT collectibles. It’s inspired by Gorillaz, Damon Albarn’s animation group.
Music Major Universal supports this unique work and KINGSHIP will join the group of artists along with Billie Eilish, Queen, Taylor Swift and Nirvana.
Collectible 10,000 NFTs at Bored Ape Yacht Club have received a very high price this year. NFT Bored Ape sold over $ 95 million last month at an average price of $ 170,000.
KINGSHIP’s manager, Nicholas Adler, told Cointelegraph that his group wants to “become a leader in the way musicians and artists participate in Web3.” Adler also runs Snoop Dogg.
“There are many musicians in the NFT room, they participate, buy NFTs or make simple art projections, but the music has not been creatively released yet.”
The four monkeys in KINGSHIP are owned by the early watch collector Jimmy “j1mmy” McNelis, who recently sold another of his NFT Bored Apes for $ 3.4 million at Sotherby.
Adler told the Cointelegraph that he knew McNelis on a personal level for about a year before he was contacted by Celine Joshua, founder of Universal Next Generation at 10:22 p.m. He says that Joshua knows how to sign “very innovative works”, and calls at 22:22. “three cobwebs”.
“They really want to break stereotypes and do some fun things,” Adler said.
After contacting Joshua, Adler suggested starting a business with McNelis, which owns about 80 NFTs from Bored Ape.
He said: “When we called her, it really was the perfect time because we did not have to go out and buy monkeys that we could get, we could choose from a really interesting and wonderful store.”

Regarding the future of The Gray King, Adler says: “The story is really evolving. This is happening in real time, as I think the NFT space is happening in real time.”
“The most important thing for us is to make a really powerful story about these monkeys. The goal is to bring them to life. Who are these characters? What’s their story? What motivates them? What instruments do they play? Who is special? “
