An upcoming Film Festival will be held from September 25 to October 4, hosted by Gyeonggi Film School. The festival recently announced its partnership with MovieBloc, a blockchain-based media distribution platform.

According to Fn News, festival fans can rate each movie in real time against different icons. Participants can also contribute in other ways, for example by providing foreign language subtitles for various films for additional symbolic rewards.

The online festival, which was developed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, may be the first of its kind and could set a precedent for future festivals in the post-coronavirus era. MovieBloc CEO Kang Yeon-kyung hopes that this new model “can coexist with national and international film festivals and the film industry”.

In July, a piece of collaborative performance art consisting of 15 short films was fragmented and minted into a non-exchangeable token on the Ethereum blockchain.

In this event, a mechanism was used to reward project shareholders for every sale of the asset. Gyeonggi Film School will implement a similar idea at the upcoming event.
