I thought we were good when I worked for the Austrian government’s security service. After learning how trivial it is for some organizations or people in certain places to collect all the data about the citizens, I quickly began to understand how privacy had been besieged for probably 100 years. I’m afraid that in the attacks after COVID-19, these attacks will only get worse.

When I took a job as an OPEC specialist in government, I never thought I would think about today: I became skeptical of the system. Everything is interesting to me now. But first I did not have the courage to argue with anyone about it.

I grew up as the son of an Austrian diplomat, and we lived in North Africa for a while. Later I returned to Africa and traveled through Africa on vacation from government work. This was when I was going through a period of personal transformation.

Choice of decentralization
I realized that my true passion was to work with technology that can make our world a freer, fairer and more peaceful world. If I continued on the path I was driving, I would fear that I would have a mental breakdown. I did not want to be part of the system anymore. I wanted to do what I could be proud of. I really wanted to try to change the world.

I went and joined the emerging cryptocurrency industry – not to make money, but to help make the world a better place. Blockchain promoted freedom, freedom of expression, equality and peace. When I quit my comfortable government job, everyone I knew laughed. They asked: what is bitcoin? Why not do something for real?

The answer is simple: I believe in privacy and freedom of speech. I mean people should be free. I do not think people should be forced to do anything. Everyone shall have the right to do whatever he wants, provided he does not harm anyone. When I’m on my deathbed, I will not regret the work that has been done. I do not want to leave my children worse than I found – like George Orwell’s Oceania in 1984. We seem to be on the same path.

In response to the COVID-19 outbreak
Governments have abused the coronavirus pandemic to become more centralized. When I read reports on contract tracking software and call trackers, I see how this pandemic has been used to control people more closely. The great isolation – as the International Monetary Fund called it in response to the COVID-19 pandemic – convinced me that we are not free. In recent months, we have been banned from traveling, and many of us are still barred from attending home. We are not allowed to visit our parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters, but multinational companies are open and many have never closed their doors.

The isolation requirements for social distancing, which I call “antisocial distancing,” will have a major impact on mental health around the world. Reports show an increase in anxiety, depression and suicide. Young people will be particularly affected as they are the ones seeking to develop their social networks. We will see the impact on these people in five to ten years. And if the epidemic gets worse – for example, it will resume in the autumn or winter – we can return to new isolation, which in the long run will affect our rights, economy and society.

About the topic: Why privacy is a major concern during the COVID-19 pandemic

There are times when you just know the odds are against you. For those of us who are in favor of freedom and decentralization, this is one of those moments. We live in a central society. Our personal freedoms and rights have often been an illusion. There is a good chance that the global decentralized coding he is trying to create will fail. We must accept this. But we must also meet the challenge. We need to introduce more than expected from decentralized systems to prove that they are viable. There is nothing more fun than keeping our promises to give the world more freedom.

Why should we choose blockchain technology?
Bitcoin (BTC) is a safe currency without limits and inflation. They inspired decentralized innovation and created a fairer world. In this world, operating systems and devices, including personal computers, smartphones, the Internet of Things, etc., run on a decentralized client and are not controlled by a central government.

Blockchain networks, peer-to-peer networks and decentralized technologies form the basis of this free society. Anyone, anywhere, can communicate, make money and build a reputation through this combination of social and economic media, while enjoying freedom of speech.
