This week’s Nifty News review follows a weekend filled with announcements from Yuga Labs, the start of the SXSW conference in Austin, and the addition of non-fungible token support (NFT) for 1-inch wallet users.

Yuga Labs acquires CryptoPunks and Meebits
Yuga Labs, the creator of Bored Ape Yachting Club, or BAYC, has announced that it has acquired the intellectual property (IP) rights to CryptoPunks and Meebits NFT pools from Larva Labs. By adding these tags to its portfolio, Yuga Labs now owns the technical copyrights, along with 423 CryptoPunks and 1711 Meebits.

CryptoPunks’ terms, in contrast to BAYC, restrict previous transfer of intellectual property, copyrights or trademarks to Punk owners. That’s why Yuga Labs decided to give NFT owners full commercial rights so that “developers and community builders can include CryptoPunks and Meebits in their Web3 projects.”

Matt Hall and John Watkinson, co-founders of Larva Labs, will not join Yuga and will continue to manage projects from Larva Labs. In a blog post, they stated that as the Profile Photo Projects category, or PFP, has grown into an industry in itself, “we at [Yuga Labs] looked at a number of skills and experience in the field that we lacked.”

NFT support added to 1 “wallet
1inch Network has announced that 1-inch Wallet users will be able to see the NFTs stored in their addresses and see information about them. This feature aims to make it easier to store and manage NFTs, and allows users to send NFTs to other wallets.

1inch Wallet has integrated OpenSea API to add NFT support. NFT support is currently available on Ethereum and Polygon networks and will soon be rolled out to other networks.

San Antonio Spurs to sell basketball games
The San Antonio Spurs have released the “1336 Coach Pop NFT Collection” in honor of head coach Greg Popovich’s 1336 victories, better known as “Coach Pop.” An NBA team has won five NBA championships, and coach Pop has broken the record for most wins by any coach in NBA history. The collection contains digital copies of Popovic’s hand-drawn plays. 100% of all proceeds will go to San Antonio Food Bank at the request of the bus.

Longtime Spurs assistant coach Brett Brown came up with the idea of honoring the memory of an NBA-winning head coach at an NFT auction. Of the 1,336 games, five are 1: 1 auctions that include a physical playing card and Tottenham’s next season experience for the winner. The remaining 1331 NFTs are a combination of five playing cards and five slots played by the Spurs during Pope’s coaching career.
