MetaMask, the Ethereum (ETH) browser wallet developed by ConsenSys, exceeds 1 million monthly active users for the first time.
This achievement comes about seven months after the total number of wallet users peaked at 1 million users, indicating that the equivalent growth of Decentralized Funding (DeFi) in 2020 led to a significant increase in MetaMask’s user base.
In the announcement, MetaMask highlights DeFi’s pioneering protocols Uniswap, Yearn Finance, Curve, MakerDAO and Aave among those favored by users, highlighting its commitment to support Defi’s future growth:
“Over the past twelve months, significant growth in adoption of DAO, Web3 games, and rapid consumer adoption of DeFi’s products and services has accelerated our growth curve.”
According to DeFi Pulse, monthly MetaMask users have tripled since February, while the total cost of banned DeFi protocols has increased tenfold over the same period.

MetaMask also released a mobile version of the wallet on September 4, which may have helped it attract seven-digit monthly users.
