For centuries, people quarreled with each other over everything from food to land and ideology, but later they found themselves in peace and cooperation. Later, again, they will return to withdraw their weapons. The great divisions between Catholicism and Eastern Orthodox Christianity were repeated later in the Protestant Catholic wars of the 17th century, until peace finally took hold between the two parties centuries after its inception.

After 400 years, it becomes clear that technology has done nothing to curb our tribal instincts. If anything, the development of blockchain has been destroying these instincts. The tribe does not allow blockchain to maximize its unlimited potential, but the placement of “your currency for my currency” prevails, including among industry leaders. At the same time, our ability to navigate the choppy waters and withstand the wave of mass adoption depends on our desire to cooperate despite our latent tendencies toward tribal behavior.

Tribalism is deeply rooted
However, the problem goes deeper than the guiding principles of economics and politics. Many cryptocurrencies have a loyal following and become tribal in nature, and take an ambivalent, if not directly hostile attitude towards other currencies.

You can easily find satire in the crypto world, on Twitter or on Reddit, where users toss other coins with sarcasm like “shitcoin”. This toxic type of tribalism reaches blockchain developers who can give up better technologies just because they belong to a different camp. This clearly harms the development of blockchain applications in general.

This tribalism has the potential to intimidate talented beginners and developers and slow down growth and development. Thus, this immature hostility to the transcendence complexes, which has led to the toxic strain of the blockchain community, must be stopped for all parties who ultimately share the same ultimate goal of moving the blockchain into the mainstream.

Large and delicious digital cake
Many of us remember that Wendy’s smart hit the competition and other Twitter users over the last decade. But we can hardly imagine the big shooters openly calling each other’s products “stupid” or making other shameless titles for their products on Twitter, in the same way that cryptocurrency users defeated the competing cryptocurrencies.

But it is a silver lining and a way forward.

First, the presence of fierce competition and a strong passion for products shows that the market has existed from the beginning. Almost every venture offer includes a competitor’s segment. Furthermore, although blockchain projects may compete with each other for the opinion of users, developers and society, there is a general need for collaboration to expand the blockchain reach. Currently, only a small portion of the population has anything to do with blockchain space, and aggregation to fill the gaps for beginners should take precedence over small indoor competitions.

There is an understanding among companies that competition is a healthy lifestyle and that “let the best win”, not “allow the best to win and shoot the competitor with slander or libel.” It is this understanding that will benefit cryptography and blockchain: a healthy competition without condescension that exists today.

In fact, many in the blockchain industry want to go around the corner and find a new path. As interoperability is becoming a reality, many developers are joining forces to build bridges between chains. The results of this technological development are enormous, and demonstrate the concrete unity of the developers who see the success of the regular blockchain engine.

Chain interconnection, both technically and ideologically, uses Metcalfe’s law to drive growth for all. Metcalfe states that the value or usefulness of the network is proportional to the square of the number of nodes you have bound. Bonding of chains and ecosystems dramatically accelerates Metcalfe. This kind of healthy competition is necessary to promote the cause of decentralized financing – less protectionism, more fraternity. Polkadot and Cosmos are thriving decentralized societies that are examples of what a mature collaboration can give DeFi.

A blockchain dream could go a long way before it became a fertile ecosystem that pioneers dreamed of. It is true that a home split alone cannot resist, and in the blockchain world, this issue could not be clearer. Time for developers and cryptocurrency enthusiasts to join hands and start working together.
