CEO Jimmy Enon said in a recent interview that major e-commerce marketplaces eBay may soon integrate crypto payments.

The online marketplace is one of the oldest e-commerce platforms that currently aims to be a go-to platform for Gen Z and Millennials. The CEO said in an interview with The Street that the company has been trying to integrate cryptocurrency payment options for some time, and an official announcement may be made during the upcoming Investor Day on March 10.

During his interview, Iannone revealed that the e-commerce giant is planning to switch to new payment methods, as they already manage $85 billion in volume on their platform.

Talking about eBay’s stance on new technologies such as blockchain and cryptocurrency, Iannone noted the growing popularity of trading non-fungible tokens on its platform without making any official statement.

Iannone said the company changed its policy last year to make the e-commerce platform a place to buy and sell everything, both physical and digital. eBay did not respond to Cointelegraph’s request for comment at press time.

The increase in popularity and demand for cryptocurrencies has led many online platforms to add cryptocurrency payment options. eBay, which is focused on attracting Gen Y and Z customers, wants to do the same. However, this wouldn’t be the company’s first attempt to make payments in cryptocurrency – eBay first tried to integrate payments into BTC in 2014.

As Cointelegraph reported in May 2021, eBay last year explored the possibility of integrating Bitcoin payments in addition to NFT trading. It appears that the cryptocurrency payments integration plan is currently nearing completion as the cryptocurrency becomes mainstream and more accepted by the masses.
