Popular messaging app Discord has had to return to its plans to integrate with Ethereum-based non-fungible tokens (NFT) after a major setback by a large number of users.

The setback began on Tuesday after Discord founder and CEO Jason Citron tweeted “Maybe nothing” with a screenshot of the app’s custom settings page with the Ether (ETH) logo and connection to digital wallets like MetaMask and Wallet Connect. …

Lemon was then bombarded with thousands of comments asking them to leave plans with users who threatened to cancel their Nitro subscriptions. Crypto skeptics argue that NFTs are a Ponzi scheme and are harmful to the environment due to the amount of energy expended in cryptocurrency mining.

While Citron commented that the feature is in a “pre-release” mode, on Thursday it noted that it has entered a “non-release” mode:

“Thanks for all views. We have no current plans to publish this internal concept. We are currently focused on protecting users from spam, scams and fraud. Web3 has many good issues, but it also has many issues that we need to work on. Our scale” almost”.
Although Discord is a popular application among the crypto community – with NFT projects, especially using the community building platform – it seems that console gamers (including those using the platform) are not very fond of cryptocurrencies.

A Reddit post on the r/discordapp community on Monday titled “Please Don’t Support NFT” has nearly 6,400 votes.

User CaboSanLukas stated that NFT technology is a “scam”, adding, “Imagine buying a ticket that tells you you have an X picture. But this ticket is not legally binding in any country. Speculation and rarity, Attolin argued:

“You burn an acre of Amazon forest to get a link to a receipt for your purchase. You don’t get anything, you don’t even get a receipt, you get a link to the receipt.”

Returning to Twitter, Hayden Adams, founder of decentralized exchange Uniswap, said Friday that the reaction Citron received was “absolutely surreal,” but it’s a good reminder of his early entry into the Web3 world.

“PoS + L2 will completely solve environmental problems over the next year, but misunderstandings and fears will persist for much longer,” he said.
