The Mediterranean Hospital in Cyprus, one of the largest private healthcare facilities in the country, keeps records of COVID-19 vaccinations at VeChain, another compelling example of the use of a supply chain logistics platform.
The hospital said in a press release that as of Monday, 100 doctors and staff had received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine. The vaccinated employees also received a digital certificate in the E-HCert app, which is an electronic portfolio of laboratory research results based on the VeChain Thor blockchain.
Digital certificates are “another step towards the digital transformation of the healthcare system using the VeChainThor blockchain,” said the Mediterranean Hospital in Cyprus.
In a tweet earlier this week, VeChain said the technology gives governments and individuals confidence in the validity of the test results.
The E-HCert app was launched at the hospital in June. Over the three-month period from June 2020 to August 2020, the app recorded COVID-19 test results for more than 8,000 people, according to VeChain.
In December 2020, VeChain announced that another Cypriot healthcare facility, Aretaeio Hospital, has also integrated a digital laboratory testing solution.
For all possible use cases, VeChain has chosen healthcare as an industry prone to disruption due to blockchain technology.
According to the company, blockchain technology represents “the best opportunity to change the current paradigm and change healthcare, test results, treatments and diagnoses, and facilitate the process and security of information exchange between parties.”
VeChain was launched in 2018 and claims to provide secure product lifecycle management with a focus on supply chain and IoT protocols. The project has received strong support at various levels in the Chinese government and has established partnerships with, among others, Walmart, BMW and LVMH.
According to CoinMarketCap, VeChain’s cryptocurrency, VET, is up over 20% in the past 24 hours and 56% in the past week. It is currently ranked 20th in total market value with a value of approximately $ 1.95 billion.
