The use cases of blockchain continue to grow as the world learns about the benefits it provides. In addition to financial innovations such as the ability to conduct peer-to-peer transactions, blockchain is currently paving the way for the healthcare industry.
Medical professionals have created a way to track and store health data using blockchain technology. Roseanne Warmerdam, CEO of Health Blocks, told Cointelegraph that her team has developed a way for users to create and store patient health data without sacrificing their privacy and security.
“We wanted to start by giving users ownership and control over their health data,” Warmerdam said. Based on the IoTeX blockchain, the platform collects lifestyle-related health data from wearables and other smart devices and links it to a decentralized health profile.
The project also provides incentives when users reach their health goals. “We want to make healthy living fun and rewarding, as well as providing the tools to improve health and ensure that everyone has access to healthcare,” Warmerdam said.
In doing so, users can receive tokens when they reach their health goals. According to Warmerdam, “When a user reaches the healthy goal of 10,000 steps per day, a smart contract is triggered that sends tokens to your profile.”

Meanwhile, a medical company in Mexico is using the blockchain to verify COVID-19 test results. MDS Mexico uses this technology to avoid falsification of results. The team certifies the detection of COVID-19 using blockchain and cryptographic signatures. This secures the information with a unique, immutable, immutable, and easily verifiable QR code.
There are a number of current use cases for blockchain in the medical field, but many expect it to be open to new breakthroughs. While discussing potential new use cases for cryptocurrency and blockchain, billionaire Mark Cuban also shared theories on how to use a decentralized autonomous organization for medical procedures such as colonoscopy.
