In a tweet posted by Axie Infinity late Thursday night, the lucrative fantasy monster, or NFT, sold plots for 550 ETH ($ 2.3 million). Axes are objects that users order to fight other players, fight enemies and complete daily tasks. They are also NFTs that can be freely processed (extracted), bought and sold.
The game takes place in the world of Lunacia, inhabited by Axies. There is a 301 x 301 square grid where each section represents a symbolic lot called a tera that players can also buy, sell or rent to other players as they wish. The land sold yesterday is the Genesis brand, the rarest form of virtual property available in the Axie Infinity ecosystem.
Monsters known as Chimeras appear in the game and terrorize Lunaria. By defeating Chimeras, players win Smooth Love Potions (SLPs), which can then be traded on cash cryptocurrency exchanges. Defeated chimeras also drop other types of resources that can be used to upgrade their nodes and lands, thus increasing the potential income of SLP. Genesis Land is strategically located in the center of Lunation, where rare Chimera raid bosses spawn and drop special items. In addition, only 220 of the 90,601 land plots bear the Genesis designation.
Game critics say there is nothing physically tangible about virtual property and wonder why it might have any value at all. But for some, playing Axie Infinity is a full-time job that is well worth the pre-investment, especially in developing countries where daily SLP earnings in the game often exceed the national minimum wage.
