The American cinema giant AMC is steadily approaching its goal of accepting cryptocurrency payments by the end of the year, and the purchase of cryptocurrency for electronic gift cards has now begun.
CEO Adam Aaron announced on Tuesday that AMC customers can now buy digital gift cards in cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin (BTC) directly via the AMC website, mobile app and cinemas.
The new payment method is activated through the standard crypto payment processor BitPay, said Aaron, so that consumers can buy e-cards up to $ 200.
The CEO highlighted Dogecoin (DOGE) among the accepted digital assets for AMC e-card purchases. In September, Aaron indicated that AMC would add DOGE to the list of cryptocurrencies accepted for tickets by the end of 2021.
Aaron asked 140,000 people on Twitter and asked the community if AMC should accept DOGE payments for tickets. “You obviously think that AMC should accept Dogecoin. Now we have to find out how we do it, “Aaron said at the time.

As previously reported, Aron announced the company’s plans to accept Bitcoin payments for cinema tickets in August, pending the rollout of the new payment option by 2022. The film network also plans to support four other cryptocurrencies – DOGE, Ether (ETH) mentioned above, Litecoin ( LTC) and Bitcoin Cash (BCH).
Earlier this year, Major Cineplex Group, the largest cinema operator in Thailand, launched a pilot payment program that allows customers to purchase tickets with cryptocurrency.
